Mrs S went to the local Town Hall as she needed help with some work to be done around the home. They were unable to help her, but she was given our number.

Upon contacting the Leeds Directory Mrs S was very happy to have spoken to a friendly staff member. She received the list of Decorators in timely manners and she was very satisfied with the layout of the list.

Mrs S said that isn’t aware of anywhere else where she can get checked and vetted tradesman and hence contact us. She also said that she has had a good experience using the Leeds Directory and so would use us again.

Mrs H contacted the Leeds Directory because she needed a reliable joiner. Having used the service previously and being satisfied, she contacted us again. Mrs H, called a joiner from the list and is now looking forward for his arrival.

Mrs H was confident in contacting the Leeds Directory to acquire someone reliable as she said “there are people out there but they are not reliable” and she also mentioned that “it is nice to think that someone will ring you back or come and see you”.

Having received the list of services from Leeds Directory I managed to contact reliable service providers. The Leeds Directory team was “nice to get in touch to see how I had got on with the provider”.

“I wanted to say thank you for checking as it makes it a lot easier”.

Mrs P was looking for a reliable cleaner and following her friend’s recommendation she contacted the Leeds Directory, as her friend was very happy with a gardener she used from the Leeds Directory.  Mrs P contacted a cleaner who she found absolutely amazing because she was “so friendly and professional”.
 
Mrs P mentioned that Leeds Directory is very helpful, especially “if you are looking for a specific service” and that “I am grateful that I got such as good cleaner from the Leeds Directory”.    

I like to know they are checked and have received star ratings. This security is important when letting people into your home.

Mrs C was given the Leeds Directory helpline number through the Leeds Older People’s Forum and then used us again, as she was looking for an electrician. Mrs C had a complete electrical failure and hence an electrician was needed, urgently. She rang the Leeds Directory and we were able to provide her with three numbers of reliable electricians over the telephone and also sent the list, in the post.

She contacted one of the electricians, who responded to her very quickly, on a bank holiday, weekend. He was able to identify the problem and repair it in timely manners. Mrs C rang the Leeds Directory again to say that “The service is great and I am very grateful. I will recommend Leeds Directory to others and I will also call you again for other services in future”.

Leeds Directory is a fantastic service, all those lovely people listed, able to help you.

Mrs P was struggling with her shopping and was having to ask friends and neighbours to help her. They were not always available making it difficult to keep the cupboards full. After hearing about the Leeds Directory, she got in touch with East Leeds Homecare Services. They now take her in the car every fortnight and support her to do her own shopping which she prefers. Mrs P has since called back for a list of vetted gardeners, and we hope she finds someone to help with this too.

Miss R needed someone to help with the cleaning and laundry at home as she is disabled herself and both her parents have memory problems. She had tried private adverts which did not go well. “I thought I was not going to find anyone until I heard about Leeds Directory”. Miss R told us that dementia is difficult to deal with and she needed someone who understood her parents’ behavioural changes.

Miss R found Whiter Than White Housekeeping Services via the Leeds Directory and she couldn’t be happier with the work they do for her. “The Directory made it a lot easier, being able to browse the list at my own leisure. I like having the choice and viewing the reviews from other people. It is great that the Leeds Directory does the first layer of sifting.”

In addition, we were able to refer Miss R to the Memories Reminiscence Activity Library, another service by Care & Repair Leeds. She is now able to borrow fun books and activities to use with her parents, and they are delivered and collected to her house.

Ms P needed someone to fit a burglar alarm in her house. She tried contacting the local police station who weren’t able to provide her with information. She heard about the Leeds Directory through her local Neighbourhood Network Scheme. When we rang to see how she’d got on with the information, she said she “used H R Security who were reliable and professional… If I need anything – I would definitely use Leeds Directory again”.

Mrs B needed someone reliable to fix a door. Her family is away at the moment and she was reluctant to let people in her house that she didn’t know.

Mrs B contacted the Leeds Directory and we sent her a list of local joiners through the post. She contacted someone from our list and asked him to do a variety of jobs for her. Mrs B was very pleased with the tradesman as he was polite and honest.

Mr W. son was looking for a cleaner in the local area to where his father lived and while surfing for that service, he came across the LeedsDirectory.org website. He contacted 4 cleaners via email and one of the providers responded almost, immediately.

Mr W. son was happy for the cleaner to visit his father, who visited him soon after and it was decided that this was the cleaner that the family will be using for Mr W. Initially, the cleaner was called for weekly cleaning services, but gradually weekly washing and shopping were included along with companionship.

Mr W. son mentioned that all these services gave them great reassurance to have found such as good cleaner and also found the Leeds Directory “very helpful”.

Mr C has struggled for 6 months to find a tradesperson to do some work for him. All said they would come and then didn’t arrive.
Within a day of contacting a provider listed on the Leeds Directory. The provider had called, given a quote and then completed the work. Mr C says the work was completed in a very satisfactory manner. “I am delighted with the Leeds Directory service”.

Mrs M confessed having very challenging couple of weeks but needed a gardener and she couldn’t find anyone to do the work. She remembered contacting us previously for an electrician which she found was wonderful so she contacted us again, to get a reliable gardener.

Mrs M said that “I come to you because I know I can find people that are reliable and I have also recommended Leeds Directory to a friend, too”.

Mr S couldn’t get hold of an electrician so his Social worker suggested to call the Leeds Directory. Mr S contacted the Leeds Directory in the morning

Mrs C is a part of her local Neighbourhood Watch Team and is often asked for reliable trade companies by local residents. She struggled to get hold of trustworthy people to refer people to. She then found Care & Repair Leeds and was told about the Leeds Directory service. Mrs C said: “I received the information so quickly and it is just what I needed. With the Green Tick Directory, I can also help others in my area.”

In particular, Mrs C needed someone to repair her TV aerial. After contacting someone on the Leeds Directory list, her aerial has now been fixed.

Mrs G had been ill for a while and urgently needed a cleaner to help her around the home. She contacted Leeds Directory and we quickly put a list of checked and vetted cleaning companies in the post for her. After receiving the list, Mrs G contacted one of the cleaners and was able to set up a weekly service. Mrs G said: “I am more than satisfied with my new cleaner. I always look forward to seeing her.”

Mrs G, like many other older people, found it very difficult living on her own and said that she simply “did without things” before hearing about the Leeds Directory service. She was first signposted to us by her local Neighbourhood Network Scheme, Wetherby in Support of the Elderly.

Mrs G feels it’s extremely important that providers are vetted and trustworthy when she is letting them into her home. Now, Mrs G is a regular user of the Leeds Directory service and has contacted us many times for information on a variety of services.

Mrs H moved to the Leeds area fairly recently and didn’t have any family or friends nearby to ask for help when she needed help with cleaning and decorating.

“It is important when you are new to the area and letting people into your home that they are vetted and checked.”

Miss K was looking for a gardener and initially tried finding one using the Yellow Pages. However, Miss K couldn’t find a gardening company that charged a reasonable rate. “The prices were extortionate; more than £100 for a bit of gardening.”

Miss K then contacted the Leeds Directory, and we quickly put a list of local gardeners in the post for her. Two weeks later, Miss K called the Helpline again to thank us for the information and to give feedback on an organisation she’d used. “They were very reasonable; less than half the price of those in the Yellow Pages. They didn’t rush the job either; they took their time to do the job right.”

She also mentioned that the information we sent was very clear. She just wished we had few more organisations listed!

Mrs F contacted the Leeds Directory looking for reliable and vetted tradespeople for jobs inside the home. She had contacted Leeds City Council but they were unable to help her, but she was given our number by her local Neighbourhood Network Scheme.

She didn’t feel comfortable contacting people out of the yellow pages and so has regularly requested information from us, including a list of plumbers and locksmiths for one off jobs. She recently said that she is still using a gardener that she found through us last year. She felt it was important that she has vetted people in her home so that she feels safer. Mrs F said that she has always had a good experience when using the Leeds Directory and so would use us again.

Mrs J needed information on local activities that she could attend for some social interaction.

We sent Mrs J details of her local neighbourhood network scheme and other local lunch clubs and outings. Three weeks later, she has found a regular lunch club that she enjoys attending, organised by her local neighbourhood network scheme.

“I used to volunteer at a lunch club so it was nice to see so many on the list you sent. The food was nice and everyone was very jolly; I’m really looking forward to going again. This is currently the only activity I get to so I’m glad I’ve found it.”

Mr K was given our number from his social worker as he needed a cleaner. After receiving the list, Mr K contacted one of the providers and was very satisfied as they were flexible to work around his needs.

He said: “I don’t know where else I could have got a list of cleaners as I’m new to this country.” The checking and vetting process was also very important to him. His only suggestion was to have providers who speak a variety of languages.

Mrs H contacted the Leeds Directory as she needed an electrician urgently. We gave her some numbers and followed up with a full list in the post. Mrs H said she called one of our providers who came straight away and resolved the issue quickly. She said she would definitely use the Leeds Directory again and her family are happy that she’s using checked and vetted companies.

Mrs L has used the Leeds Directory service for a couple of years. She feels secure letting our Green Tick providers into her home knowing that they are trusted and reliable. She said she is very grateful for the Leeds Directory and other Care & Repair services.

Ms S contacted the Leeds Directory when looking for a painter and decorator. She mentioned that the companies she’d contacted previously didn’t get back to her. “I have contacted one of the decorators from the list and they have agreed to visit at a time that suited me.” Ms S stated that our service is “just brilliant”, and she’s really pleased to find a checked and vetted decorator.

Mr W previously used local advertisements before finding out about the Leeds Directory. He used one of our providers to carry out the annual service on his boiler. He was so impressed with the work, he’s arranged next year’s service already for September 2015!

Mr W says “it’s good to know you have someone to go back to if you have any problems”. And that he’d definitely use our service again – and would recommend the service to others.

Mr J had previously asked family members to help with odd jobs around the house but has since tried finding a handyperson in the Yellow Pages and Thomson’s, but they weren’t satisfactory. Mr J called us for a list of checked and vetted handyperson after seeing our number in a newsagent’s window.

Mr J has now used a handyperson off the list numerous times and is happy with the work. He works with elderly people and has told us that he will definitely give out the Leeds Directory Helpline number to them: “The Leeds Directory is a good service and a brilliant idea!”.
